I’m an England Athletics Coach in Running Fitness, my journey began like the runners I now support…

Back in 2016, at 42 years old and unable to run for the bus, I took my first steps into running. What started as a difficult mile turned into a life-changing passion.

Since then, I’ve progressed to running 21 marathons, multiple ultras and achieving my fastest ever times in my 50s — including a 2:49:50 marathon at Frankfurt and selection to represent England Masters at the Manchester Marathon in 2026.

How does the coaching Work?

My coaching is built around simplicity, structure and genuine support.

Instead of rigid, pre-set plans, we work together step-by-step to create a training approach that fits your life, adapts as you progress, and keeps you motivated, confident and injury-free.

Here’s how the process works:

  • Your athletic history, goals, lifestyle, barriers, confidence levels.

  • We build your plan around specific and stretching but realistic goals that are clear and trackable aligned with broader aims with key milestones updated within Final Surge.

  • Weekly Calls, feedback on progress,  your time to explore any aspect of your running and receive coaching guidance. WhatsApp support for any questions, concerns or changes to plans in-between.

  • Safe, structured, sustainable improvement. Staying motivated, with a better run/life balance and on track to achieve your goals.

“From breaking down in training to a 3:21:45 first marathon
— Tony’s coaching changed everything.”

— Sam

“I can’t thank Tony enough for the dedication, expertise, and belief he’s shown me throughout this training block.

I began the journey aiming to be quietly proud of just completing a marathon—but Tony saw more in me and believed I could go further.

His belief never wavered, even when mine did. I truly don’t think I would have completed the Yorkshire Marathon without Tony’s support over the past three months.”

My Journey

A man standing in front of a mosaic portrait wall with images of famous people, surrounded by colorful photographs and notes.
A man with short hair and a light blue t-shirt standing outdoors near playground equipment with trees in the background.

At 42, I was overweight and out of breath chasing the bus. In January 2016, I decided to make a change, joined a bootcamp, struggled through a mile… but the encouragement I received kept me coming back. I haven’t stopped running since.

That first year I completed the Manchester Half Marathon, and over time I’ve grown to love every expression of running — from 5Ks to ultramarathons, trail adventures, national long-distance paths, and even some barefoot running. Joining Belle Vue Racers in 2019 introduced me to competitive racing and helped elevate my performance.

I’m also passionate about parkrun, having visited over 140 locations to either chase a time, pace others, volunteer, or simply enjoy the community (and cake).

Wanting to give back to the sport that changed my life, I completed my Guide Runner certificate. As my own results improved, more runners began asking for guidance, and I discovered how much I enjoyed supporting their progress, which inspired me to then attain my LiRF and CiRF qualifications.

I take a holistic, person-centred approach to coaching — blending physical training with mindset, confidence, and the psychology of running. As someone who is trained in mental health, I incorporate a growth mindset and solution focused approach, helping runners manage nerves, remove pressure, and find joy in the process.

I believe there are only good days and learning days. My own journey hasn’t been linear, and those lessons help me guide others through similar challenges.

Your best is yet to come — and “best” isn’t just about times. It’s about better form, smarter energy use, increased age grading, improved confidence and most importantly, enjoying your running again.
